Home to nine breathtaking showcaves, complete with underground rivers and stunning limestone cave decorations, the Jenolan Caves have something for everyone. Adventure caving, guided tours and bushwalking are on offer here. And when you’re ready for a break Chisolm’s Restaurant is located in historic Caves House, a beautiful old building dating back to 1897. Or plan ahead and bring a picnic or BBQ lunch eat outside listening to the birdsong and watching kangaroos wander past.
For those wanting a little fear factor come back at night. The Legend, Mysteries and Ghosts tour is just the thing for you. Depending on what you see, a drink at Jeremiah’s Bar and Lounge after your tour might be welcomed.
Without question, Jenolan Caves are some of Australia’s most impressive limestone caves. No extended trip to the Blue Mountains is complete without spending, at a minimum, half a day here. If you have to pick just one cave to see, I highly recommend the River Cave tour. The 1271 metres and 1298 steps take you past the largest column at Jenolan, shawls, stalagmites and a spectacular, motionless underground lake. You will need a reasonable level of fitness to walk up and down the (sometimes seemingly endless) stairs and walkways that take you through each cave. River cave is reached through Lucas cave so it makes for exceptionally good value – 2 caves for the price of one.
